Very interesting lecture in Medications today:
Depression.
Psychological factors to the above illness include:
Stress
Illness
Loss of loved one
Loss of $$
Abuse
BGR
Think many Singaporeans' number one factor to depression is due to STRESS. My friends around me are suffering from the tortures of FYP. Me myself inclusive. I suspect I'm suffering from bipolar disorder leh!
K, how you know if you're suffering from Depression?
Do you encounter more than 5 of the following:
1) Feeling of sadness
2) Loss of interest or pleasure
3) Lack of energy (lethargy), or irritability
4) Weight loss/decrease in appetite or the opposite
5) Insomnia or hypersomnia
6) Feeling of worthlessness or inappropriate guilt
7) Difficulty in thinking/concentrating
8) Recurrent thoughts of suicide/death
If yes then yes you need treatment now.
Personally, I feel that depression's very common. Depression affects 1 in 10 from all walks of life! Friends around me, too many real life examples. I admit that I was once a patient of depression as well. That was like ages ago... hope it doesn't relapse.
The best non-pharmacological therapy is to start with your thinking. Once you change your thinking, mood changes, everything will be back to norm. Easier said than done leh... some people just think too complicated. *whistling*
Last but not least, NEVER say this to a depressed patient:
"It's all in your mind."
